Welcome back to Wealth of Health. Today we wanted to cover a topic which we have been getting quite a few questions about. That is, the now available and fast becoming popular Athletic Screenings which we offer at Gold Coast Physiotherapy. We are getting questions like "What is an Athletic Screen?" or "Can I do one if I'm not an athlete?". Body performance and efficiency is something we take very seriously at Gold Coast Physiotherapy. We realise the importance of healthy movement and the benefits that is has for our mental, physical and overall health. Moving efficiently reduces excess and inefficient loading on our bodies and so reduces our risk of injury and consequent time away from doing the things we love. Moving with freedom also reduces the energy needed to perform tasks and ultimately leads to better performance. Having a thorough screening of your bodies physical ability to achieve healthy movement is a great way to understand and shape your training to meet the demands you place upon it. Let's take a closer look...
Athletic Screens
If you are interested in improving your movement, strength, speed, or flexibility. Or maybe you would like to improve your athletic or sports performance. An athletic screen at Gold Coast Physiotherapy may well be the perfect solution for you!
An Athletic Screen, performed by a trained physiotherapist at Gold Coast Physiotherapy, gives you a thorough breakdown of your body’s strengths and weaknesses to perform movements and skills specific to the demands you place on it. Whether that be the physicality of training for sport or the physical activity which you enjoy on a regular basis. From our Athletic Screens you will receive a detailed handout, customised feedback and a tailored made program based on your results. Our Screen Programs, backed by research, are specifically designed to improve your weaknesses, and enhance your strengths to take your sporting and athletic performance to the next level.
How does a Sport Screen work?
Our Athletic Screens are done in one-on-one consultation with a trained Physiotherapist. Approximately 45 minutes in length, you are guided through a battery of tests assessing key markers in strength, range of movement and balance which are specific to the demands of your chosen sport/activity. Each key marker tested is scored as either “needs work”, “satisfactory” or “excellent”. Following the screen, you will receive a document of the area’s tested, the corresponding scores and feedback of your capacity to perform within your chosen sport/activity. Your marker scores determine the focus for your program, targeting your weaknesses and enhancing your strengths to improve your efficiency and performance.
Who will benefit from a Sport Screening?
Athletic Screenings are great for anyone who wishes to improve their bodies physical and functional ability. Whether you looking to take up challenge like learning to surf, hiking the Camino de Santiago or improve your sports performance, Athletic Screens are a fantastic way to understand and implement targeted training to better your bodies physical performance. The great news is that you don't need to be an athlete to take an Athletic Screening. Learning to move more efficiently and effectively will help you to reduce loads, improve your bodies performance and reduce the risk of injuries. Screenings are designed for all levels, from people taking up exercise for the first time, to weekend warriors in local sport, right through to professional athletes competing on the World Stage. A little bit like going in for a car service, an Athletic Screening is the perfect way to improve your bodies movement efficiency and ensure less breakdowns.
